"Modern Criminal Justice" Foundation was founded in 1998 as a not-for-profit Organization to contribute to the reform in the field of criminal justice in Republic of Bulgaria in accordance with European Convention for Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.

"Modern Criminal Justice" Foundation was founded in 1998 to accomplish the following goals:

to contribute to the establishment of new policy in the field of criminal justice in conformity with the global changes in the Bulgarian state and society;
to analize the application of the current Criminal Procedure Code, so that the amendments proposed reflect the problems in practice;
to undertake a thorough survey of the modern criminal justice systems in order to use their approaches in the drafting of the radical changes in the current criminal procedure legislation and the new Criminal Procedure Code directed towards the establishment of effective criminal proceeding with due respect for human rights;
to make a survey of the application of the new police investigation, differentiated proceedings and the amendments in the Criminal Procedure Code in force under the requirements of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the Strasbourg case-law;
to prepare training programs for the law enforcement agencies, attorneys at law and judges concerning the new criminal law; to organize seminars, meetings, debates on the problems of the criminal procedure legislation and practice;
to analIze the new phenomenon in changing criminal reality and to prepare the due amendments in the current legislation;
to assist the harmonisation of the legislative approach between criminal procedure, criminal law, criminology, international criminal procedure and criminal law.
