Bulgarian Communist Party

Historical notes: The Bulgarian Communist Party is a new party founded in Apr. 1990 with the initial name Party of Labour People. At a internal party referenfum in the spring of 1990 the name of the ruling Bulgarian Communist Party was changed to Bulgarian Socialist Party, and the Party of Labour People took the name Bulgarian Communist Party. Majority of membership are Marxist oriented former BCP members.

The party participated independently in the parliamentary elections in 1991 and 1994, in the local elections in 1995, and in the presidential elections in 1996. Party colour - red. Party publishes the newspaper "Komunistichesko delo".

Since founding Secretary general of BCP is Mr Vladimir Spasov, re-elected atthe latest party congress in 1996.
