(Obedineni Demokratichni sili, ODS)

The coalition United Democratic Forces was found after the primary election in the opposition (June 1996) to nominate a candidate for the presidential elections. In the period August 1996 - Feb. 1997 members of the coalition were UDF, People's Union and MRF. The only governing body was the Political Council were every party was represented by its chair.

In February 1997 a new agreement between UDF and People's Union was signed. MRF refused to sign and formed a new coalition - National Salvation Union. Later BSDP, IMRO and other small parties and organizations joined the United Democratic Forces as some of the MRF activists lead by Mr Gyuner Tahir did.

United Democratic Forces won the April 1997 general elections and makes the ruling majority in the 38th National Assembly.
