Ilcho Ivanov DIMITROV


Born on June 3, 1931 in Sofia. Married, has one son and one daughter.

Completed high school in Dupnitsa 1949. Graduated in History from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" 1953. Post-graduate studies at the European University Center in Nancy, France 1966-67. Ph.D. in History 1963 and 1976. Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciencies. Assistant professor since 1959, associate professor since 1970, and professor of modern Bulgarian history at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" 1974-95. Dean of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" 1979-81. Deputy chair and director of the Center for Bulgarian Studies of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences 1984-86.

Member of BSP since 1954. MP in the 35th National Assembly 1986-90. Minister of Public Education 1986-89. Minister of Education, Science and Technologies Jan. 1995-Feb. 1997.
