Rumen Vasilev GECHEV


Born on Oct. 4, 1956 in Cherven Bryag, Lovech district. Married, has two sons.

Completed high school in Sofia. Graduated from the University for National and World Economy 1980. Post-graduate studies at Illinois State University, USA 1978-88, in London and in Tucson, Arizona, USA 1993. Ph.D. in Economy 1989. Associate professor and dean at the University for National and World Economy 1984-95. Deputy director of the Business School at the University for National and World Economy 1989-93. Guest lecturer at Illinois State University, USA 1991-92. Member of the Board of Managers of "Microprocessor Systems"-Pravets 1988-91. President of "Orpheus" Co. 1990-93. President of a consultancy firm 1993-95.

Member of BSP. MP (elected in Pleven) in the 37th National Assembly (Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Left) 1995. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development Jan. 1995-Feb. 1997. Chair of the Council of Directors of the Bank Consolidation Company Oct. 1996-Mar. 1997.

Publications: over 40 scientific articles on macroeconomic policy, problems of the transition, international marketing.
