Elena Borislavova POPTODOROVA-Petrova


Born on Aug. 31, 1951 in Sofia. Married, has one son.

Completed the English language high school in Sofia. Graduated from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" 1974. Worked as interpreter in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 1975-80. Occupied positions ranging from third secretary to minister plenipotentiary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 1980-90.

Member of the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Club since 1991. Member of the Governing Council of "21 Vek" foundation since 1993. Member of the Governing Council of the National Association of Family Planning since 1995. Representative of Central and Eastern Europe in the Coordination Council of the women parliamentarians in the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Member of the Executive Committee of the "Parliamentarians for Global Activity" international organization.

Member of BSP until Feb. 1997. Member of the Political Couincil of Bulgarian Euroleft since Feb. 1997. MP (elected in Yambol) in the 7th Grand National Assembly (Parliamentary Group of BSP). Spokesperson of the Parliamentary Group of BSP in the 7th Grand National Assembly. MP (elected in Gabrovo) in the 36th National Assembly (Parliamentary Union for Social Democracy). Deputy chairman of the Bulgarian Inter-Parliamentary Group 1991-94. MP (elected in Gabrovo) in the 37th National Assembly (Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Left). Member of the Bulgarian delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe since 1995.
