Spokesperson for the Coordination Council of UDF in Plovdiv 1990. Deputy chair of the National Club for Democracy (within UDF) 1993-96. Member of the National Coordination Council of UDF 1994-96. Deputy chair of the Committee on Youth, Sports and Tourism in the 37th National Assembly until Nov. 1996. Elected for President of the Republic of Bulgaria on Nov. 3, 1996.
